Origin of the song

On 13 August 1932 the film Love Me Tonight premiered in the US, produced by Paramount Pictures, directed by Rouben Mamoulian and starring Maurice Chevalier, Jeanette MacDonald, Charles Ruggles, Charles Butterworth and Myrna Loy. In the film, Jeanette MacDonald sings ‘Lover’ during a trip in a horse-drawn carriage.

Rogers and Hart wrote twenty six Broadway musicals through almost twenty years.
