Origin of the song

Jule Styne and Sammy Cahn had met Frank Sinatra when he performed with Tommy Dorsey's orchestra. When he abandoned the band to start his solo career, they wrote some numbers for him. In 1946, they left New York with Sinatra and her family, and headed for Hollywood. There, one night, Jule asked Sinatra if she had heard the new score written by Jerome Kern for a musical about Annie Oakley's (Annie Get Your Gun) life. Since no one knew her, she created a melody that sounded like Kern. Everyone loved it, so Styne later asked Cahn to write lyrics to the melody, which became 'Time After Time'. Sinatra, accompanied by Axel Stordahl's orchestra, recorded it on 24 October 1946 for the Columbia label.

Cahn and Styne wrote the music for It Happened in Brooklyn, produced by Metro-Goldwin-Mayer, directed by Richard Whorf and starring Frank Sinatra, Kathryn Grayson, Peter Lawford and Jimmy Durante, which premiered in New York on 4 April 1947. The soundtrack included 'Time After Time', sung by Sinatra and Grayson, which undoubtedly contributed to Frankie's recording of the previous year's recording now entering the charts. The film was not released in Spain.
