I´VE GOT YOU UNDER MY SKIN

Music and lyrics: Cole Porter

Year: 1936

I ve got you under my skin-clasicos del jazz

Origin of the song

On 27 November 1936 the musical film Born to Dance was released in the US, produced by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, directed by Roy Del Ruth, and starring Eleanor Powell, James Stewart, and Virginia Bruce, who sang ‘I’ve Got You Under My Skin’ in the film.

Although Porter had written songs for many films, this was the first time he composed a whole score. At the beginning, Frances Langford, who also worked in the film, was going to sing ‘I’ve Got You Under My Skin’, but the Virginia Bruce’s audition convinced Porter and the producers chose her.

‘I’ve Got You Under My Skin’ was nominated to the Oscar for best song, but ‘The Way You Look Tonight’, from the film Swing Time, won the prize.

Cole Porter was nominated to the Oscar for best song three times more -’Since I Kissed My Baby Goodbye’ (1942), ‘You´d Be So Nice to Come Home to’ (1944), and ‘True Love’ (1957)- but never won.
