Origen de la canción

Ralph Rainger y Leo Robin escribieron "Easy Living" para la película Easy Living (Una chica afortunada), producida por Paramount Pictures, que dirigió Mitchell Leisen e interpretaron Jean Arthur, Edward Arnold y Ray Milland. En el film, que se estrenó en Nueva York el 7 de julio de 1937, el tema se escuchaba solamente en versión orquestal.

Billie Holiday había grabado la canción en junio de ese año y, aprovechando su relativo éxito, la productora volvió a incluir "Easy Living" en la banda sonora del film Remember The Night (Recuerdo de una noche, 1940), que dirigió también Mitchell Leisen e interpretaron Barbara Stanwyck y Fred MacMurray. En esta ocasión, lo cantó Martha Mears.

Años más tarde, RKO Radio Pictures produjo otra película titulada también Easy Living (Vida fácil, 1949), dirigida por Jacques Tourneur y protagonizada por Victor Mature, Lucille Ball y Lizabeth Scott, con diferente argumento que la primera. De nuevo se utilizó "Easy Living", pero esta vez lo cantaba Audrey Young, quien más tarde se convertiría en Audrey Wilder, esposa de Billy Wilder.

Ralph Rainger y Leo Robin fueron unos prolíficos compositores, fundamentalmente cinematográficos. A ellos de deben, entre otras, las canciones “Love in Bloom” (1934), “June in January” (1934), “If I Should Lose You” (1935), “Blue Hawaii” (1937) y “Thanks for the Memory” (1937).
